The spring concert of Glasperlenspiel Festival with the title And Yet Songs Come will be food for soul after the long months of cultural polar night – the gathering of great musicians under the vaults of Jämaja church will present the audience pearls of classical and contemporary music. The concert’s versatile program includes music that contemplates life from the angle of eternity as well as virtuoso pieces bubbling with joy and beauty from the present moment.

• Repertoire includes works by Mozart, Rossini, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Fauré, Strauss, Rimsky-Korsakov …

Luc Robert possesses a remarkable tenor voice and is one of the rising Canadian artists on the operatic and concert stages. He graduated from the Conservatoire de Musique de Québec with honours and joined the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio in 2002 and made his COC main stage debut in the 2002/03 season singing Hermann in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades and Riccardo in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera. In April 2015 he debuted at the Metropolitan Opera with the title role in Verdi’s Ernani. His repertoire includes leading roles from the treasury of tenor repertoire: Donizetti’s Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), the title role in Britten’s Albert Herring, Puccini’s Rodolfo (La bohème), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) and Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca), Steva Burya (Janáček’s Jenufa), Verdi’s Duke (Rigoletto), Rodolfo (Luisa Miller), the title role in Don Carlo and Macduff (Macbeth), Nicias (Massenet’s Thaïs), Orphée (Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice), Don José (Bizet’s Carmen), the title roles in Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust and Gounod’s Faust.

Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta was born within the festival in 2008. The repertoire of the collective spans from Bach to Pärt and Piazzolla, from classical masterpieces to cross-over projects. Sinfonietta has performed in the most famous concert venues of the world and given concerts almost everywhere in Europe, South America, Russia, Iran and other countries. The orchestra has also participated in numerous international and domestic music festivals. The Sinfonietta members, led by the artistic director and chief conductor Andres Mustonen, share a common belief that centuries’ old music still lives and breathes today, bringing joy and pleasure to the audience, and can invigorate souls and minds regardless of style.

Andres Mustonen is an outstanding Estonian conductor and violinist who has worked with leading orchestras of Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Latvia and Lithuania. His repertoire spans from early music to works of new music with a special emphasis on performing religious masterpieces. In 1972 Mustonen founded the early music consort Hortus Musicus which is still actively performing across the world. He has also conducted and directed several concert series and festivals like MustonenFest. Mustonen has many rewards: Estonian State Cultural Award, Estonian Radio Musician of the Year, IV Class Order of the White Star, the Prize of Estonian Music Council, a gold medal from the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Armenia.
