FROM SPAIN AND PRUSSIA WITH LOVE
String quartet Quatuor Akilone (France)
Boccherini, Mozart, Haydn, Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga

Quatuor Akilone: Magdalena Geka (violin I), Elise De-Bendelac (violin II), Perrine Guillemot (viola), Lucie Mercat (cello)

Attracting with its elegant playing and lively spirit, the Quatuor Akilone quartet’s concert is a fascinating musical journey that highlights interesting geographical connections and influences in the music of Western European classical composers. Born in Italy, Luigi Boccherini lived in both Vienna and Madrid; Mozart composed his String Quartet No. 22 after a visit to the court of Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm II (hence the nickname “Prussian”), and a Spanish Basque short-lived composer Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga was once known as “the Spanish Mozart”. Quatuor Akilone is reputed for the deep and poetic vision of the works they tackle, and their repertoire is truly vast. Established in 2011 in Paris, the quartet has won several prestigious awards and has performed at the Wigmore Hall, the Salle Cortot and other famous concert halls. Quatuor Akilone has also collaborated with musicians such as Vladimir Mendelssohn, Tabea Zimmermann, Avri Levitan, David Walter and others.
