Viviana Sofronitsky is best known as a performer of classical and romantic music on historical instruments. She plays sometimes even with fve pianos on stage, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the music performed on instruments as strong and colourful as they were at the time when they inspired young classical and romantic composers to write their masterpieces. The pianos used in the performance are produced by the world’s most prolific modern fortepiano maker, Paul McNulty. Sofronitsky graduated from the Moscow Conservatory and received historical fortepiano and harpsichord performance degrees from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. She has won prizes at the Bach Tage Berlin and Musica Antiqua competitions and has recorded several CD-s with music by Mozart, Chopin, Liszt and others. Russian-Canadian citizen Viviana Sofronitsky is based in Prague, from where she travels Europe to perform with her fortepianos. Three fortepianos for tonight’s concert have been specially brought from the Czech Republic and are copies of the instruments Beethoven used for composing his famous piano works.
